We're sorry to hear that you had such trouble, Maryann. We doubt the substitution of mini-chips would have made a difference, but it could be that the tins weren't greased fully enough. Turning the muffin cookies out of the pan immediately after baking is also important, as it helps prevent any excess sugar or chocolate from clinging to the edges of the tin.
