My apple pie recipe that I tore from a Virginia newspaper 25 years ago calls for an egg, vinegar, butter, and shortening with the flour.. tasty and flaky. I use tapioca flour for a thickener, no aftertaste and cooks up clear. Use about as much as you would with cornstarch.
