Thanks -- Way long ago (before the 50s, I think), Hobart/KitchenAid used to sell a pastry knife attachment for their mixers. It was essentially a long flat piece of metal bent to have the same shape as the outside of a regular mixer beater. Always wondered why they stopped and whether it would have worked better than a beater. May just have been unnecessary based on this article.
