I live in Connecticut and I have recently found the heritage apple Esopus Spitzenburg at a local farm stand. A little reading discovered that it was Thomas Jefferson’s favorite apple. A newer orchard, Hidden Gem Orchard in Southbury, grows it. It is so delicious raw, and cooks up so well that it has become my fave, too. BTW, I looked for Northern Spy at a NY orchard, and they said the tree is not productive and had ripped them all out!
