Thank you for this Mary Katherine. I enjoyed the history as well as the information. I lived in apple country in New York State for most of my life so I’m fussy about apples. Here in Las Vegas we are at the mercy of grocery conglomerates who live goodness knows where and deliver us varieties we’ve never heard of and may never see again. Oh for the days when I lived a couple of miles from the Cornell orchards. Honeycrisp is my current favorite, also priciest, and sometimes we get Macs from WA state which are a treat for their wonderful flavor. In my opinion Granny Smiths are the most overrated apple ever - tart and tasteless - and I never buy them in spite of P.J. Hamel’s recommendation.
