I live in Pennsylvania now, but was born and raised in New York State. To me the very best apples for pies are Northern Spies. They might be hard to find in some areas but we are close to the NYS state line (8 miles away) and are able to get the Spies here. Can't wait to make my first apple pie, but these apples generally aren't available until mid October.
