I’m from Washington State so of course there are many apples to choose from. I like to mix them up a little but my favorite is earligolds. I also like zestar, ginger golds, cortlands, Macintosh and others. My very least favorite is Granny Smith and not only because they are so ubiquitous. They don’t cook up well and I don’t care for crunchy pie. Also, it seems to me that they are flavorless.
I am excited to try the new apple, Cosmic Crisp, in a pie. It was developed by Washington State University and introduced to the markets last fall. They are absolutely amazing and delicious for eating. The best I have ever had (and I’m 78!) They are advertised as all purpose and great for baking as well as long lasting. AND they are non GMO!!
