I'm just here to chime in. Having been what I like to consider more-travelled throughout the South, I've never seen a shop open up, or be established for that matter, that offers chicken and waffles unless it was a national chain restaurant, like Bojangles or Shomars.

The idea it's a "southern" food is in no way correct.
