Hi Jenny, the batter needs to be mixed at a high speed for about 4-5 minutes for best results. If you have an electric hand mixer, you might want to consider using that instead as it can provide the speed that's desired here. If you don't have this tool either, you're welcome to give your bread machine a try knowing that the dough might not rise quite as much as it otherwise would.
