That sounds really frustrating, Finch! For a recurring problem like this, we'd suggest only stirring with newly-sanitized tools, fresh from the dishwasher. There's a possibility it's something in your home environment that's causing it, too. It sounds odd, but you might try keeping your starter in a different part of the house, away from your kitchen. If there's something growing under your fridge or behind a floorboard that's giving off spores, it may be that a simple relocation could do the trick. Best of luck, and happy baking!
