Hello! I began my starter last Friday evening and fed it regularly every 24 hours with a mixture of whole wheat and unbleached all purpose. By Monday morning it was REALLY active, like more than doubled - pushed the lid off my jar active... which is when I started feeding it twice daily and since then it has been practically dead. I see little bubbles in it still, but it's not rising and falling anymore... and the smell is almost a little like puke... where as before it was sweet and fruity... I think maybe it got too ripe or something? I live in San Francisco, in a really old apartment... maybe there's just too much yeast in the air? This same thing has happened to me before, which is when I just threw in the towel (years ago) but I'm really determined to make it work.. is there anything I can do to salvage? Any suggestions to prevent this from happening again if I have to start over?
