These are a favorite for my gluten, dairy, soy, and egg free family! We use Earth Balance Soy Free instead of butter and they turn out great. My other favorite modifications are to add 1/2 t of almond extract to the regular recipe. Or, I do a chocolate modification. I add 6 T cocoa or cacoa powder. 1 extra T of butter/earth balance and 1-2 extra Ts of powdered sugar.
