Chilling you dough would definitely be our first suggestion, Joan. Before adding flour, you might also try using lower-moisture ingredients like granulated sugar instead of brown sugar and/or shortening in place of the some of the butter in your recipe. Baking on parchment paper rather than directly on the baking sheet can also help, as can lowering your oven temp and baking for longer, as we describe in another blog article on the subject.
