This wonderful cake is my wife's favorite, so I make it quite a lot. I had trouble with the fruit and nuts sticking out and burning (even after I poked them in), so now I reserve a baseball-sized lump of dough without fruit or nuts, then roll it out into a thin sheath to enrobe the loaf and cover the fruit. It's easy and works well - no more burned fruit.
