Hi Kathryn, the issue with adding cinnamon directly to the dough is that cinnamon can have an inhibiting effect on yeast growth, which is why a lot of cinnamon bread recipes include a swirl of cinnamon/sugar. When adding cinnamon to the dough itself, I would keep it to a teaspoon or less.
