I made this recipe yesterday for the first time and it worked great! It was for Christmas cookies for my 4 year old grandson's school party. I made sure to sift the powdered sugar (I usually skip that step with a lot of recipes) and ended up adding another 1/2 tsp of light corn syrup. I also added all the milk but very slowly. I used a short off-set spatula to spread it on the cookies and with patience, it spread and smoothed out like you said with no problems. At about the 3/4 point of using up all the icing, I added just a tiny bit more milk to make it easier to spread. I also put the food coloring in the milk and then into the powdered sugar. Added all kinds of sprinkles on top and they look great. A simple treat for kids. I saved some cookies with just the icing and no sprinkles for my grandson to decorate for Santa with regular icing in a piping bag. I live in the Texas panhandle, so usually have to add more liquid to make things spread because it is so dry here. I give this 5 stars if you want a smooth glossy icing for cookies.
