Hi Barb! You could use buttercream to decorate your cookies, it won't set firm like royal icing does though, and will need to be refrigerated. We'd recommend waiting to add sprinkles and sanding sugar until the frosting has started to dry a bit but is still tacky so they'll stick. We hope this can help and happy baking!
