Hi Susan, Yes, the brotform liner is generally used with very wet dough, or when you're planning to allow the dough to rise in the brotform for several hours or overnight in the refrigerator. In these situations the very well-floured liner offers added protection against sticking. If the dough is only going to be in the brotform for 30 minutes it should work fine to flour the basket well and cover the dough with sprayed plastic so it doesn't dry out while it's rising. Barb
