I too have a recipe from my grandmother for plain white bread and boy is it good. However she used cake yeast and it's hard to find today. I've tried using the dried yeast and it works to a certain extent but the cake yeast is better. Maybe your grandmother also used cake yeast and simply put it in the recipe as "yeast".
