Hi Lynne, self-rising flour already contains baking powder and salt. So when using self-rising flour in a recipe that calls for AP flour, you do not need to add the additional baking powder and salt that the recipe calls for. If you are using a recipe that calls for self-rising flour but you only have AP on hand, you will need to add 1 1/2 tsp of baking powder and 1/4 tsp of salt to each cup of AP flour to turn it into self-rising flour.
