Like I told my sister when she noted that my Austrian Farmer bread with caraway and fennel "really had that 'rye flavor'," no, that's not RYE flavor. That's the flavor of what American's THINK is rye, that's found in virtually all commercially produced "rye" breads (that's based on JEWISH DELI RYES, themselves based on higher-percentage mixed rye breads originating in Eastern Europe where rye was much more common) but is in reality the pungent seeds, typically caraway, sometimes fennel, and occasionally others, added.
