Lin, it's true that loaves tend to lose some of their crustiness while they thaw after being frozen. To help with this, you can put a cute gift tag on the loaves saying who they're too and from, as well as quick note to put the loaves in a 350°F oven for about 5-10 minutes before serving to help re-crisp the crust.
