I get where you're coming from, Anne. Since the instructions have you bake the crumble before assembling the pie, extra butter must have been added (or the crumble not baked). I'm guessing that the person who made the pie for the photo is in the habit of "dotting with butter" before laying on the top crust. Optional anyway (for flavor), but not usually done with a crumble topping. This pie and its variations all sound so good! Thanks Agatha, Erin, and KA.
