Maybe this is a good place to ask. I was introduced to scones in high school by my friend's Scottish mother. However, instead of baking them, she made them into little rounds and then fried them on her round griddle. They were perfection and I'll never forget that they made the best munchies ever. Anyway, is there a different name for these? She called them scones so that's what I knew them as but they were not very American biscuity at all, not fluffy, more flakey and buttery.
