For Linda, who cannot use butter. I have a little pamplet, dated 1956, entitled "Fancy Cookies, Festive Candies, Delicious Goodies for Giving". It was published by Corn Products Refining Company and distributed through KARO and Mazola Corn Oil distributers. This is their recipe for "Rich Fudge Brownies". I believe it has the bonus shiny crust, too! 1 C. sugar 2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted ¼ C. MAZOLA oil* ½ C. chopped nuts 2 eggs ⅔ C. sifted cake flour ½ teaspoon vanilla ¼ teaspoon salt Combine sugar and Mazola. Add eggs; beat until light and smooth. Stir in vanilla, me ted chocolate and nuts. Sift cake flour and salt; add gradually to chocolate mixture. Beat until smooth. Turn into greased pan ( 8 x 8 x 2 inches). Bake in moderate oven (350* F.) 30 to 35 minutes. Makes 9 large or 16 small brownie squares. Please note, I have used Canola Oil in this recipe for the past 30 years. Would love to know if you like them!
