There were so many comments I scrolled through that perhaps somebody already mentioned this, but currants and raisins are NOT the same thing. They're not both grapes! Due to a very old and outdated restriction (a plant disease carried by currants that threatened some larger crop), actual currents have been outlawed for commercial growth and sale in this country for decades. Real currants are spectacular and very different in flavor from the tiny little shriveled-up raisins that Americans use as a substitute. You have to order them from Canada or from Britain -you cannot get them in the United States otherwise.
