It sounds like your bread machine is overkneading the dough to the point of damaging the gluten. If there is a way to shorten the knead cycle, that might be an alternative. You might also mix it in the machine and pull it out to rise and bake in your oven. Then you can control the second knead and rising. If it's the recipe, the errors will still be there.
