Very interesting story! My father, a Greek immigrant arrived at Ellis Island in July 1913. After traveling around the U.S. and eventually settled in Ithaca, NY, where he worked for another Greek immigrant in the confectionary business. He opened a small confectionary shop in 1930, where all of his candies were hand made by him and my mother. The shop was in the same location in Ithaca until 1989 when the building and the business were destroyed by a fire which started in a nearby building. I grew up in the candy and ice cream business, helped my Dad in the kitchen while growing up and have many, many memories of how the candy business brought happiness to me, and our many customers. To this day, I miss the family business and our times together.
