This was a good read - thank you! Though, I believe The Palmer House in Chicago claims to have invented the brownie in 1893 for the world's fair. I believe Fannie Farmer's use of the word "brownie" was in reference to a molasses cake. Take a look: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chocolate_brownie
