Hi Andrew, Thanks for the question. The Osti stones are marketed as not requiring maintenance or, "self-dressing." I do take the top off and clean it now and then. I will probably have maintenance take off the top stone at some point---as long as we can get it back together properly. ; ) Best, Martin
