I checked my microwave (which this recipe was tested in) last night, and it is 1000 watts. My co-worker, who required only 2 minutes on the second round in the microwave, said hers is 1100 watts. I know 5 minutes seems long for the first round, but it worked for me. It’s the second boil you want to be careful on – even though 3 minutes worked for my co-worker, and 4 minutes worked for me, you want to pull the bowl when the mixture turns a caramel color – the trick is to keep an eye on it, since everyone’s microwave acts a little differently.
