Can you tell us what the wattage of the microwave you used was? I'm concerned that 5 minutes for the initial cooking of the sugar is too long if my microwave is 1000 watts. I've seen many microwave peanut brittle recipes but I think they were developed when microwaves were relatively weak (800 watts). Following those times or even chopping off 30 seconds has always resulted in burned peanut brilled and sometimes a ruined bowl or two.
