I know this an old post, but I've found always weighing the ingredients with a kitchen scale helps with spreading.
Don't overmix your dough either. Stick closely to the time stated in the recipe.
Also keeping the dough chilled between batches helps.
One last thing that helps me is using a small or mini sized cookie scoop to portion the cookies. I've found when I use a medium or regular sized scoop that the cookies spread a lot more. The mini scoop makes cookies similar in size to store bought ones like Chips Ahoy.
