My son is in college 450 miles away and I just sent cookies in plastic tubs and well-padded. I wish I'd have had your tips before sending them! BUT, I did also send him a birthday cake and it was a huge success! I baked a red velvet cake in half-pint mason jars and sealed each jar. I toasted pecans and put in a plastic bag and then sent a tub of store-bought cream cheese icing. The cake arrived moist and since it was sealed each individual cake could potentially last up to several weeks.
