My mom has sent birthday cakes through the mail a couple of times since she moved several states away. She tried putting them together decorated, and not only were they a bit beat up upon arrival, but they dried out quickly. The last couple of times she's sent them, she packaged the cakes in separate plastic baggies, and the frosting and filling in their own baggies. I decorated it (which was very quick, with everything already made) and put it in my own cake dome. It was moist and delicious and lasted longer, plus I got to enjoy my mom's wonderful baking, and I didn't have to bake!
