Years ago I had a friend at West Point having a birthday far from home. I sent him a "do it yourself birthday cake kit." I baked two layers of cake, wrapped them well in waxed paper and foil and put between paper plates. I included a container of store bought icing and a small supply of plastic forks and knives and paper plates. He loved it, as did all his friends who got to share.
