Love the article! Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your outlook, I'm the last of my family with the exception of my wife and sons. Shipping baked goods to my retired friends in Florida and other various warm (and old) places is something I hadn't considered.
The thing that was not mentioned, and forgive me if I didn't read everyones reply, the USPS Priority Mail boxes you are referring to are USPS "FLAT RATE" Priority Mail boxes. Sure you can traipse down to your local post office and get boxes, OR, you can go online to http://www.usps.com and register, order boxes for free, delivered free to your door and you can actually pay and print the shipping label.
I do a lot of shipping so I got extra fancy and bought Avery (brand name) 8126 shipping labels that gives you a 5.5" x 8.5" label to put on the package. You can register at http://www.avery.com as well and design and create right on their website. Both websites use secure websites when you actually register and create accounts.
Last thing is something my grandpa, who retired from the USPS back in the late 60's, taught me and that's when you pack a box you want to make sure the contents don't SHIFT. That's what causes the damage is the items shifting inside the box as it's jostled around over the miles.
He also joked that "PARCEL" postage meant they'd throw it 5 feet, "FIRST CLASS" postage made it a 10 foot throw and "FRAGILE" meant 15 feet! But that was just the type of joker he was!
