As Elizabeth says, an online account can save in shipping costs. USPS reduced their Priority Mail Commercial-based (online) prices last month for local zone shipments (up to zone 5, I think). And you can even schedule a pick-up!
As PJ says, the Flat Rate boxes are great money savers. Some of the Flat Rate Priority Mail boxes aren't available in the post office--you have to order them (free) from usps.com. The Large Priority Mail game box holds a lot, and the Regional Rate Flat Rate boxes are often more economical for short-distance shipments (you have to order these).
Thanks for all the yummy tips for shipping goodies, PJ! I like the paper clip idea for keeping track of the tape end--I've been using a coffee stirrer or an old plastic knife, but they can fall off and then it's back to picking at the tape for the end.
