I made these a couple years ago, and they were a big hit. I'm thinking about making them again this year. I made my own boiled cider by taking a half gallon of regular cider from the grocery store and boiling it down to 1/4 of its volume. To measure, I put a wooden spoon straight down into the cider to measure how deep the cider was--let's say it was 8 inches. I then figured out 1/4 of 8 inches (2 inches) and marked 2 inches on the wooden spoon with a clean rubber band. Then I boiled it until it was 2 inches deep. It was delicious in the caramel. I used the leftover in granola instead of maple syrup.
