The only apple I use for pie is Rome Beauty. The apple pie I won a blue ribbon for at our county fair was one made with Romes, a shortening crust, brown sugar, flour, connamon, nutmeg, salt, butter and a splash of vanilla. Every holiday my family ask if Im making an apple pie. Some have requested it for their birthday in place of a cake. And I always have to have vanilla ice cream on hand or I wont eat the pie.
