A Disapointed Baker

I tried to make sandwhich bread today for the first time. I used Gluten free flour and hand kneaded it for a long time. My recipe said to knead it for 8-10 minutes or until it springs back when you poke it. when I thought that it sprung back a bit it was way over 10 minutes. It never quite rose though :/ Gluten free bread at the store is expensive and we have been wanting to try to make some. Can you help me?
