You're a good friend, Catherine! I'd point them towards the Sourdough Guide and the "Maintain" page. They aren't having to start from scratch but they'll want to feed it as soon as they get it. They can choose to follow the "keep in the fridge and feed once a week" instructions or the "keep on the counter and feed every 12 hours" instructions — whichever works better for them.
