Hi Sharon, yes, both the butter and the eggs need to be at room temperature. See step 2 in the recipe for how long to beat the mixture. The recipe also links to a video showing you how to cream butter and sugar. You may want to read our Recipe Success Guide. It contains helpful information on egg and butter temperature.
