Hi Gers, we'd love to help you get the results you're looking for in your homemade cakes. There are a number of reasons why cakes can turn out dense, including over-creaming the butter and sugar together, which is what's described in this post. If you're sure you're mixing the butter and sugar properly, then the next most common cause of dense cakes is using too much flour. We recommend measuring your flour by weight for best results, or you can use the fluff-sprinkle-sweep method if you measure by volume.
