After several attempts with other recipes I was thrilled to see your updated one. I had so much trouble with the cream filling prior to making yours. I have a friend waxing nostalgia for his hometown of Brooklyn, so all attempts were for him. I've copied his e-mail to show the results. The Black Out cake is almost completely eaten now. Delicious!!!! In recognition of your feat of having replicated so authentically a now extinct Ebinger's bakery Brooklyn tradition and on behalf of Brooklynites everywhere, including Barbara Streisand and Billy Joel + Steven Spielberg, I now designate you to be an honorary Brooklynite.
