Rather than vodka, etc. I keep a small amount (250ml) of straight-grain alcohol (95%) in the fridge. Everclear is one brand. Adds no flavors to the mix that might be found in vodka or gin. Unlike other spirits used in the kitchen, it is not advised to make any taste tests while cooking.
