I also grew up in So. Cal. enjoying Salt Rising Bread. I always thought we bought it from the
Helm's Bakery man, who drove his yellow and blue truck all around the neighborhoods with breads and pastries. Now I'm thinking you're right, it was Van de Kamp! Our family was sad when it disappeared. I can still smell and taste it 50 years later! There is no better toast in the world! I've collected a couple other recipes, but since this seems the easiest and I'm not that good at breads, this will be the one I try first!
