I LOVE salt rising bread. Growing up in WNY it was in all the local bakeries and restaurants. I sooo miss it. Thank You for posting this!!! Could you use a crock pot on low for the starter? Or would that be too warm? It's not that it would be to warm, it's that the bacteria will negatively react with the cast iron. If the cast iron is enameled that would be fine, other wise choose a glass or ceramic vessel. Betsy@KAF
