I wonder if the husband's "fructose intolerance" was part of a larger fermentable sugars intolerance called "FODMAP" by Monash University in Australia. If so, he wouldn't be able to eat the applesauce either since the goal is to reduce foods with high FODMAPs to reduce IBS symptoms. If interested, search on 'FODMAP' but realize Monash tests foods to update their info so websites that haven't been updated within a year or two may give inaccurate high-low FODMAP ratings.
