I found the recipe in the catalog and my husband asked me to make it. I followed the recipe which says to mix the starter ingredients, but when I did that, it did not get bubbly. I came online to check for suggestions and found this blog that says to just toss in the starter ingredients, but doesn’t say to mix them. The picture of the starter the next morning, looks nothing like mine. Should I not be mixing the flour, water and yeast together? After I mixed it all together and set it to rise, it didn’t rise hardly at all (and I even bought the SAF gold yeast that is recommended in the recipe). After I rolled it out and braided it, it rose well. The end result comes out good. We did use the same yeast to make hot cross buns later in the day and those rose like normal. It doesn’t seem like it’s the yeast that is preventing it from rising the first time. Could it be because I mixed the starter ingredients? Thanks!
